The Valley Has Opinions: Who’s Making the Cakes in the San Luis Valley?

One of my own cakes.

Local recommendations, sweet occasions, and a few opinions from the people who call the San Luis Valley home.

Last week, we were talking sopapillas. This week, we’re moving on to cake.

Apparently, The Valley Has Opinions is starting with dessert. I’m okay with that.

A recent question in a local Facebook group asked for someone to make two cakes, with one needed in just a few weeks. And the Valley showed up with suggestions.

But that question was only the beginning. Look back through the conversations, and you’ll find neighbors looking for wedding cakes, graduation sheet cakes, tres leches, cupcakes, and birthday cakes with some very specific themes.

Golden Girls? Boss Baby? Somebody in the Valley has asked.

There are also those “I need a cake by tomorrow” moments. If you’ve ever been responsible for getting everything ready for a celebration, you probably understand how that happens.

I haven’t personally ordered from all of these bakers, so these aren’t my rankings. This roundup comes from local community recommendations shared over the past couple of years.

This One Is a Little Personal

I’ve made cakes from home myself, so this week’s conversation hits a little closer to home.

There’s a lot that goes into making a cake for someone’s celebration. Getting the flavor right, working out the design, and putting it all together takes time and care.

And that talent can absolutely come from a home kitchen. Having a storefront doesn’t determine how good the cake is. I want this list to make room for the people doing beautiful work wherever they bake.

So, Who’s Making the Cakes?

Bake My Day | Kaitlin Bergann

Kaitlin’s name came up again and again across the conversations. Birthday requests, graduation celebrations, wedding questions. Different occasions, and neighbors kept pointing people her way.

One recommendation said she “does amazing work and her cakes are delicious.” That combination came up a lot in this research. We want the cake to look good in the pictures, but we also want people to enjoy eating it!

Sprinkled with Love | Jennifer McMichael

Jennifer was another familiar name throughout the conversations, with recommendations for both cakes and cupcakes.

One neighbor shared that Sprinkled with Love had recently done a fantastic job on their cake. Others were quick to add Jennifer’s name when someone new asked where to order.

There’s something reassuring about seeing a name come up in a completely different conversation months later.

Lovely Cakes by Anaise | Anaise Bejarano-Moreno

Anaise received plenty of mentions, too. And one conversation included the kind of follow-up I love seeing: “nailed this cake!!! Highly recommend her!!”

Last week, we had a sopapilla update after someone tried a recommendation. This week, we have cake feedback. Please keep coming back and telling us how it went. That’s the useful part!

Cakes by Kindra

Kindra’s recommendations kept coming back to both the decorating and the flavor.

One neighbor summed it up pretty well: “Cute AND taste good!!” Another called her cakes “not only beautiful, but delicious.”

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty good cake checklist to me.

Baked By Jordan | Jordan Tedford

Jordan’s name also appeared across several conversations, including requests for birthday, wedding, and graduation cakes.

If you’re gathering names to contact for your next celebration, Baked By Jordan belongs on that list of community suggestions. Reach out with your date and what you have in mind to see whether it’s a fit.

Sweet Retreat Bakery | Alison Hickman

Alison received compliments for cakes that were moist and delicious, and a separate recommendation specifically praised her tres leches.

Now we’re getting into the important questions. Are you choosing your cake based on the design first, or have you already decided what flavor you want before anyone asks about decorations?

You can find Sweet Retreat Bakery on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sweetretreatbakeryco).

Bloomed Sweets | Azalea Gamez

Azalea at Bloomed Sweets came up several times in the recent conversation, as well as in earlier requests.

Her shared business posts also give a little peek at the creative side, including a golf-themed sheet cake and a Nightmare Before Christmas cake. If you have a theme in mind, looking through a baker’s recent work is a good place to start the conversation.

Sweet Spot Cakery at Tiny Timbers | Alli Butler

Alli Butler at Tiny Timbers in South Fork is another name that comes up in local recommendations. Sweet Spot Cakery offers custom cakes and cookies for occasions ranging from weddings to smash cakes.

You can browse examples of her work on the Sweet Spot Cakery website (https://tinytimbersresort.com/sweetspot/).

And the List Keeps Going...

The longer I looked, the more names I found.

Vianney Lopez with All My Love, Floral & Sweet Treats by V appeared in several conversations. Sweet Life Bakery received enthusiastic recommendations in older wedding-cake discussions. Sahara Rodriguez was praised for beautiful, tasty treats, and Raisin’ Rye received a shoutout for doing a beautiful job.

Other names shared included Sangre De Cristo Baking Company, The Ruby Rose Cafe & Microbakery, Heavenly Sent Sweets, Family J Farm Cakes, and Sweet Haven by Julianna Tafoya.

Neighbors also mentioned Jessica Morales, Misty Hobbs, Kristina Cook, Kristi Agenbroad, Dre Cere, Carolyn Mijares, and Olivia Carsner, among others.

This is a starting point, and I’m sure there are more people we haven’t found yet. That’s part of why I want to keep these conversations going.

A Little Planning Helps

Before you reach out, have your date, approximate number of servings, flavor ideas, and any inspiration photos ready. Let the baker know your budget, too.

Ask about availability early, especially if you have a specific design or a big event coming up. Some of these recommendations came from older conversations, so check directly about current offerings and ordering details.

And if you need a cake made for a dietary restriction or allergy, discuss that directly with the baker. A tag in a Facebook comment doesn’t tell you how something is prepared.

Now I Have Questions...

Are you a classic birthday cake person? Cupcakes for the crowd? Tres leches? Or are you sending your baker a picture and saying, “Can we do something like this?”

More importantly, who do YOU call when you need a really good cake in the San Luis Valley?

Tell me who made it, what you ordered, and what you loved. And if you’re a local baker, let us know your business name and where people can find your work.

There’s More to Living Here Than an Address

I love the little things that make living here special. The people behind the businesses, the celebrations we share, and the recommendations we pass along when a neighbor needs a little help finding the right person.

That’s what The Valley Has Opinions is about: local favorites, community conversations, and getting to know the place we call home a little better.

Because living here is about so much more than finding the right house.

Sometimes, it’s knowing who to call when you need a really good cake.

See you around the Valley!
